Tori Prophet MA, LMFT, PMH-C

Nice to meet you

My passion is working with women and mothers who need someone to truly listen and help them find a path to healing.

Welcome! I’m Tori, and I’m here to help you navigate the challenges of motherhood, mental health, and everything in between. As a licensed therapist and a mom myself, I understand how overwhelming life can feel at times. I can provide the tools, resources, and support you need. But, most importantly, we can acknowledge that your struggle is real.

We can help you make peace with your past.

My Journey to Supporting Mothers

Why I started Designed To Heal

My own journey into motherhood wasn’t easy. I experienced firsthand the anxiety, self-doubt, and overwhelming emotions that can accompany such a major life transition. Those experiences ignited my passion for helping other women who feel lost, isolated, or unsure of where to turn. Through years of professional training and personal growth, I’ve found ways to support moms like you in rediscovering their strength, confidence, and joy.

I specialize in supporting women and mothers who are:

Therapy is anything but one-size-fits-all

Therapy tailored just for you

My work is inspired by the philosophy of kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold, turning cracks into something even more beautiful. I believe healing doesn’t mean erasing scars but honoring them as part of your unique journey and strength. Every session is deeply personal and tailored to who you are. I don’t rely on a textbook approach—instead, I bring creativity, insight, and a wealth of strategies to meet your specific needs. Together, we create a healing space where transformation happens.

Compassionate, Tailored, and Evidence-Based

My approach to therapy

I believe therapy should meet you where you are. My approach is rooted in evidence-based practices like Brainspotting and mindfulness techniques, designed to help you process emotions at a deeper level. Whether we’re addressing postpartum challenges, past trauma, or everyday stress, my role is to guide and support you through the process. Together, we’ll create a plan that fits your unique needs and goals.

How my experience benefits you

With over a decade of experience working in maternal mental health, I’ve helped countless women overcome anxiety, depression, and feelings of overwhelm. As a mom, I bring an added layer of empathy and understanding to my practice. I know what it’s like to struggle with balance, guilt, and identity, and I’m here to help you navigate those challenges with compassion and clarity.

Taking Time for Self-Care

My personal passions

Outside of therapy, my curiosity and creativity fuel my personal passions. I’m a lifelong learner and a total bookworm. You’ll often find me running my women’s book club, hiking in nature, gardening, journaling, trying out new foods, exploring different parts of town, working on a fun crochet project, or binge-watching the latest true crime documentaries with my hubby.

I truly believe that these hobbies highlight the joy of learning and creating something with intention—values that I bring into our sessions together. These little moments are not just time off from work; they’re great reminders of the self-care, growth, and joy I encourage you to embrace too. After all, I believe that the best guides are those who are right there with you on the journey!

Experience and Expertise

My credentials and experience

I have over 20 years of experience, blending both professional and personal insights. I trained in maternal mental health at The Center for Postpartum Family Health in Houston, under the guidance of Sherry Duson, LPC-S, LMFT-S. This experience deepened my understanding of the unique challenges mothers face. As a wife, homeschooling mother, business owner, and entrepreneur, I appreciate the balance of caring for a family while managing a career and maintaining one’s identity.

Education

I've been passionate about helping individuals and families since earning my Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy from The University of Houston Clear Lake in 2003. Since then, I've continuously expanded my knowledge to better serve moms like you.

Specialized Training

I'm certified in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C), which means I have specific training to support you through the emotional challenges of pregnancy and postpartum life. I'm also certified in Brainspotting, a gentle yet powerful tool for processing trauma.

Ongoing Learning

I believe in lifelong learning, both for myself and to better support you. I regularly participate in training for therapeutic approaches like Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). These tools help us explore different parts of ourselves and develop mindfulness strategies.

FAQs

Questions for finding a great therapist

Deciding on a personal therapist is a significant step in your journey, and I want you to feel fully informed and comfortable as you make this choice.

When looking for a therapist, trust your instincts about what feels right for you. It’s essential to find someone with the professional qualifications to address your specific issues and someone whose communication style resonates with you. Look for a therapist who demonstrates empathy, respects your individuality, and is committed to creating a safe space where you can be open and honest.

It’s quite beneficial to work with someone who understands the nuances of motherhood. While every woman’s experience is unique, a therapist who has insight into the challenges and joys you may face as a mother can provide more specialized support and offer strategies that are practical and relevant to your life.

Absolutely. Therapy can provide you with the tools to manage stress, improve communication, and set boundaries, which are all essential skills for balancing the demands of work and family life. Together, we can explore strategies for creating a fulfilling and sustainable routine that honors your commitments both at home and at work.

I approach each person’s cultural background with the utmost respect and sensitivity. Understanding that family dynamics and cultural expectations play a significant role in your mental well-being, I am keenly aware of these factors and incorporate this understanding into our therapy sessions. It’s about finding a path that honors who you are and the life you want to lead.

Being nervous is completely normal – it’s a sign that you’re about to step outside of your comfort zone, which is where growth occurs. I’m here to provide a supportive environment where you can ease into therapy at your own pace. Remember, this is a space of non-judgment and acceptance, and you’re taking a brave step toward self-improvement.
